Sound Like Me: make AI write the way you do.

AI writes emails that are correct and sound like nobody. Customers notice. This skill asks you seven quick questions, learns how you write, then writes that way every time.

Before and after

What makes AI sound like AI

Researchers have measured it. These are the habits that give it away, marked on a typical AI email, with the same email after the skill beside it.

After Sound Like Me

Hi Mrs Patel,

Thanks for getting in touch. Happy to come and have a look at what you’re after.

We cover design, planting and maintenance, so can take it from start to finish if that suits. I’m free Tuesday or Thursday next week. Let me know which works and I’ll confirm a time.

Thanks, Tom

Same facts, fewer words. Tom answered seven questions and said he writes short, plain and without exclamation marks. The two dates came from him. The skill never makes anything up.

1Showy words

One study found ChatGPT uses “tapestry” over 150 times more often than people do.

2Sentences that trail off with “-ing”

“...ensuring a seamless experience.” AI does this two to five times more than people.

3“Not just X, but Y”

A stock way of sounding thoughtful. Say Y and move on.

4Stiff and distant

AI uses contractions like “I’ll” and “we’re” only about 60% as often as people.

5Puffed-up importance

Everything is “a testament to” something or “a journey”. Real people say what happened.

6The same voice for everything

People write a text, an email and a complaint differently. AI writes all three the same way.

Figures from Reinhart and others, PNAS, 2025, comparing GPT-4o with human writing. The other habits are listed in the guide Wikipedia’s editors use to spot AI text. None of them proves a piece was written by AI. People do all of these too. AI just does them constantly. The skill removes twelve such habits in all.

What you do

Seven quick answers.

1

Upload the skill and type “sound like me”.

2

Answer seven questions. Each one shows the same message written three ways. Reply A, B or C.

3

Paste in one real message you have sent a customer, if you have one to hand. This part is optional.

What you get back

Writing that sounds like you.

1

Your voice card: how you greet people, how long your sentences run, how you sign off.

2

Emails, replies and posts written in that voice, with the AI habits taken out.

3

Any AI draft you paste in, rewritten to sound like you, with a note of what changed.

The seven questions it asks

Which one sounds most like you?

Each question shows the same short message written three ways. You pick the one closest to how you would say it. It takes about two minutes.

1

Saying hello

How you open a reply to someone you have never met.

2

Short or long

Whether you write in quick lines or like to give the full picture.

3

Saying no

How you turn something down, and how much you soften it.

4

How relaxed

Whether you write “I’ll” or “I will”, and how casual you get.

5

Feeling

Exclamation marks, emoji, or neither.

6

Asking for something

How you ask a customer for an answer or a decision.

7

Signing off

The last line, and the name underneath it.

In Claude

Upload it once, then save your voice card.

1

Download the zip file from this page.

2

In Claude, open the menu and go to Skills and Connectors.

3

Open your Skills list, choose Upload skill and drop in the zip file.

4

In any chat, type “sound like me” and answer the seven questions.

5

Save your voice card. Paste it into a Project’s instructions so Claude uses it every time. Without this step it only lasts for that one chat.

In ChatGPT

Paste it into a project.

1

Download the zip file and open the instructions file inside.

2

In ChatGPT, create a new Project called Sound Like Me.

3

Paste the instructions into the project instructions.

4

Start a chat in that project and type “sound like me”. Then paste your voice card into the project instructions too, so it is remembered.

Download Sound Like Me.

Free, and no email needed. One thing to know before you start: AI does not remember your voice between chats unless you save it. The skill gives you a voice card at the end. Keep it in a Project and you only answer the questions once.

Sounding like yourself is a good start.

If you are using AI for more than emails, or would like to, we can show you where it would save you the most time. The first call is free.
